It’s been a little longer than a hot minute since I last wrote a blog post. Life has been…”hectic” seems kind of mild to describe it, but it’s the most appropriate at the same time.
These last couple of months have seen me through some serious ups and downs – especially downs. The mental struggle has been real for a variety of reasons, and I’ve been working on remembering that a) the feelings I had over the struggles and sequences of events that caused my lows were valid, and b) I can’t let them stop me from living.
I have to be honest. That second point is so, so hard for me. Anxiety and a fear of being hurt yet again makes it so hard to let go, move on. Not because letting go means you’ll forget what happened and don’t learn from it, but because it could happen again and the pain will be brand new.
But I’m finally in a place where I think I’m doing OK again. I know saying “think” makes it seem like I’m not, but let’s be real – when you have a mental illness (or several), “okay” is a pretty fluid state.
I had a whole list of ideas for posts, new starts and pieces jotted down in the notes on my phone. But being so mentally low sucked any motivation away, leaving behind a sort of writer’s block.
That, and I began writing for a job. I’m now a journalist for the paper I interned at last summer and it’s So. Draining. It just sucks a lot of the mental capacity to string words, your own words and voice, together.
But now I’m back, and doing okay, and hopefully staying that way for a while, at least. And as the title says, new name!
When I began the process of changing over this site from a class blog to a personal one, I had ZERO ideas for a name and so I left it as it was. But thanks to Reddit (don’t judge), I managed to come up with this new one a couple weeks ago.
Bmore Writer Girl.
It’s fitting, don’t you think? I certainly find it appropriate to who I am, and it doesn’t put me and this site into a box of things I can write about.
In case anyone is wondering “Well, what about your old site? What’s happening with Shani’s Critiques?” Short answer: All that content is now here! Long answer: the original site is no longer active, I had some confusion in going about to set this all up without losing my old links, but hey – you can find everything here! (Thank god for WordPress’s export/import option.)
So here’s to the new phase of this blog!
(Also, it’s my birthday next weekend. Stay tuned for something about that because i’ll probably come up with something for it!)
